OUR PUBLIC COMMITMENT

Editorial Principles

These principles define the character of our journalism and the standards we expect from every contributor.

Reviewed by IPC Headquarters Last reviewed: 30 July 2026

Truth Before Speed

Being first is less important than being accurate. We seek to verify information, identify uncertainty and avoid overstating what is known.

Evidence Before Assumption

Our reporting and analysis should rest on reliable evidence, credible sources and transparent reasoning rather than rumor, prejudice or unsupported claims.

Dialogue Over Division

We recognize the public importance of disagreement, but we reject sensationalism that unnecessarily inflames hostility. We seek language that informs, clarifies and supports constructive engagement.

Human Dignity

People affected by conflict, disaster, poverty, discrimination or displacement must be represented with dignity. Their experiences should not be exploited merely for emotional impact.

Peace and Conflict Sensitivity

Our journalism examines causes, consequences, potential solutions and the experiences of affected communities. It should avoid language that dehumanizes people or treats violence as inevitable.

International and Local Perspective

Global policy decisions have local consequences, and local action can influence global progress. We seek to connect international developments with the realities of communities and practitioners.

Transparency and Accountability

We clearly identify the nature of our content, attribute external information and acknowledge significant mistakes. Trust requires openness about how journalism is produced.

Responsible Technology

We approach artificial intelligence and emerging technologies with both optimism and scrutiny, considering innovation alongside safety, accountability, inclusion and human rights.
