The Global SDG Leadership Network – An Initiative of the International Peace Commission (IPC) is pleased to recognize a community-focused environmental and sustainable energy initiative led by Ms. Nassuuna Stellah, SDG Representative – Uganda, at Wairasa Trading Centre.
The initiative brought together more than 60 community members, including youth, women, men and elderly participants, with the participation of UATREG, Heart for People Uganda, One Touch Foundation and local government leaders.
π± Turning awareness into practical action
The program addressed the impact of deforestation associated with charcoal production and firewood collection while promoting ecosystem protection, tree planting and responsible use of natural resources.
Participants also took part in practical demonstrations on producing locally made fuel briquettes, exploring alternative household energy solutions using readily available materials. The initiative encouraged women and young people in particular to take an active role in environmental protection and community-based climate solutions.
The action contributes to SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 13 – Climate Action, and SDG 15 – Life on Land.
IPC commends Ms. Nassuuna Stellah and the participating community and partner organizations for demonstrating how local leadership, practical knowledge and community participation can contribute to sustainable development.
Every meaningful global change begins somewhere locally. Wairasa is showing what community action can look like.
